John D. Balling

Vice President for Integrated Technology Services

Serves as the chief technology officer for the university and oversees graphic production services, the Language Learning Center, network services, technology services and telecommunications, and Web Development.

John Balling, vice president for integrated technology services, joined Willamette University in September 1999. He is responsible for technology planning, network services, academic computing and instructional design, user services, administrative computing, media services and telecommunications. Prior to coming to Willamette, Balling served in a similar position for 10 years at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. Other information technology positions he has held include terms as head of academic computing at Bowdoin College, and as director of the information resource center for the Smithsonian Institution where he implemented the institution’s first user-services program. He has also served as a research psychologist for the Smithsonian Institution and the Harvard Institute for International Development. His first position was as a member of the faculty in psychology at the University of Wisconsin — Madison. Balling earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern University and his MA and PhD degrees in psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
