Sustainability Paid Internships for Willamette Undergraduates - Summer 2014
With funding from the James S. Kemper Foundation, Willamette University has established paid sustainability-focused internships at the for-profit businesses below during summer 2014. Internships were solicited and selected through a competitive process led by the Willamette University Sustainability Institute. Eligible Willamette University undergraduate students who applied and were selected by the businesses are being provided a $4,000 stipend by Willamette University to complete the internships this summer. These paid internships were offered only to Willamette University students. All internships include approximately 8 weeks of full-time work that will be completed between May 12 and August 13. Students will be required to participate in regular calls with the Willamette University Sustainability Institute and a post-internship meeting during the fall 2014 semester.
Research & Development Internship
Energy Storage Systems, Inc.
ESS has developed a cost effective and reliable battery technology to work in conjunction with the modern electric grid, integrate renewable energy sources, reduce electricity costs, and improve overall grid stabilities. An intern will participate in various activities as they deploy multiple alpha prototypes to early adopters in California and Hawaii.

Orchard International Group includes two boutique hotels in downtown San Francisco that are Green Seal Certified, LEED Certified, and SF Green Business Certified. The intern will work with the General Manager and a consultant to recertify both hotels using V4 LEED Green Building standards.

TriLibrium (Triple Bottom Line + Equilibrium) was the first CPA firm in the nation to be B Corp. certified. The intern will work with the president to complete a GRI report and GHG inventory, while simultaneously creating a process so the firm can repeat this annually.
