Times editorial notes law professor's contraceptive mandate argument
An argument made in an amicus brief co-authored by College of Law Professor Steve Green, director of Willamette's Center for Religion, Law and Democracy, was favorably noted in a recent New York Times editorial about mandated health insurance coverage for contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act.
Professor Green will host a panel discussion about the issue on Thursday, March 20 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Willamette's College of Law. The event is free and open to the public.
The brief argues that even if for-profit businesses can raise religious objections to providing contraceptive coverage, that interest must be weighed against the burden it imposes on employees. The New York Times noted that neither the parties nor other amici had raised this important question in their briefs.
