Mike Allegre

Allegre began his sportscasting career while at Central Washington University (1980-83) following an honorable discharge from the Air Force. He has since called hundreds of high school and college ball games and has been honored for his work by the Associated Press and Salem Sports and Breakfast Club.

Allegre initiated radio coverage of Willamette University Bearcat men's basketball games in 1991. The "Voice of the Bearcats," Allegre also been calling WU basketball since 2000. He was the OSAA 3A Girl's Basketball Tournament announcer from 1985 through 1994 and was the lead announcer for the first four NAIA Women's Division II basketball tournaments. In addition, he has broadcast the Little Softball World Series internationally.

"I've been doing play-by-play since I was a kid -- calling games talking into pretend microphones," Allegre said. "I love broadcasting, especially out of town games, so that listeners can 'watch it' with me. God's given me the gift of gab, so I'm using my gift."

Allegre works for the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs as a public affairs specialist. Major Allegre retired from the Oregon Air National Guard in January of 2007 after proudly serving 21 years as a public affairs officer (and four years in the U.S. Air Force). Between them, Allegre and his wife, Suzanne, have five children and two grandchildren.
