Wong is Selected First Team All-NWC for Third Consecutive Season
Ferguson Earns Second Team Recognition
SALEM, ORE. -- Joshua Wong (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS), a junior on the Willamette University men's tennis team, has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2011-12 season in voting by the NWC head coaches. Willamette senior Cody Ferguson (North Bend, OR/North Bend HS/Western Oregon Univ.) was chosen for Second Team All-NWC recognition.
It is the third consecutive season that Wong has been honored as a First Team All-NWC selection, while Ferguson has now received Second Team All-NWC honors a total of three times.
Wong has a 7-7 record in singles this season, all at the #1 position. He has played well throughout the season, while taking on the some of the top players in the West Region. Wong owns a career record of 34-18 in spring matches, including 27-10 against NWC opponents.
In 2010, Wong reached the Round of 16 in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles at the USTA/ITA Pacific Northwest Fall Championships. He reached the quarterfinals in singles and the Round of 16 in doubles in 2009.
At the end of the 2009-10 season, he advanced to the Round of 16 at the Ojai Valley Tournament. He will be competing at Ojai Valley Tournament once again later this week.
Ferguson achieved an 8-8 singles record this spring, including 8-4 in the NWC, as he played mostly at the #2 position. His career record moved to 42-30 overall, 35-17 in NWC regular season play.
At the USTA/ITA Pacific Northwest regional this past fall, Ferguson reached the Round of 16 in singles. In 2010, he advanced through the singles bracket all the way to the finals before losing and reached the quarterfinal with Wong in doubles. In 2009, he played in the consolation semifinals in singles and combined with Wong to reach the Round of 16 in doubles.
During the Ojai Valley Tournament in the spring of 2011, Ferguson won his first round match before losing in the second round.
