Kaur Sra and Levy Tie for Eighth Place at Whitworth Invitational in Women's Golf
Willamette Finishes Third in Team Standings
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Willamette University golfers Taneesh Kaur Sra and Elise Levy, both freshmen, tied for eighth place in the final standings as the Whitworth Invitational in women's golf concluded with the final 18 holes on Monday, Oct. 1 at the Spokane Country Club. Kaur Sra and Levy both carded a 165, with Kaur Sra shooting 79-86 and Levy achieving 83-82.
Medalist honors went to Emily Guthrie from Whitworth University with a 36-hole score of 150 (74-76) as she finished at 4-over par. Catelyn Webber of Whitman College took second place at 158 (78-80), while Kelly Sweeney, also from Whitman, finished third at 160 (79-81). Another golfer for Whitman, Katie Zajicek was fourth with a score of 161 (80-81).
Two golfers, Ashley Danforth from Whitworth and Tate Head from Whitman shared fifth place in the individual standings at 162. Danforth shot 82-80 and Head carded 81-81. Kalan Smith of Trinity Lutheran College (Wash.) placed seventh at 163 (81-82). Kaur Sra and Levy were joined by Alyssa Maine of Whitman in a tie for eighth place. Maine shot 79-86.
Whitman College won the team title at 639 (316-323). The Missionaries won by 16 strokes over Whitworth, which took second place at 655 (326-329). Willamette was third with a score of 674 (331-343).
Warner Pacific College claimed fourth place at 718 (354-364). Linfield (361-362) picked up five strokes on North Idaho College (356-367) during the second round, as the teams finished in a tie for fifth place at 723. University of Puget Sound was seventh at 871 (426-445). Trinity Lutheran did not field a full entry.
Kaur Sra and Levy topped Willamette's results. They were followed by Nicole Smith (So., Portland, OR/Westview) and Mckenzie Weinhold (So., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/U. of Nevada-Los Vegas) who tied each other for 16th place at 174. Smith carded 86-88, while Weinhold earned an 87 in both rounds.
Also competing for Willamette were Lettajoe Gallup (So., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) and Mele Ana Kastner (So., Vancouver, WA/Columbia River HS). Gallup shot 176 overall (83-93, while Kastner ended at 187 (95-92).
Willamette will compete at the George Fox University Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7 at The Reserve Vineyards Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. The start time for the tournament is 11 a.m. (PDT)>
