Bearcat Track and Field Teams are Ranked in the West Region
Willamette Women's Team is 6th, Men's Team is 9th
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's and women's track and field teams are ranked in the West Region of NCAA Division III in the 2013 outdoor rankings released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week. The Bearcat women's team is ranked #6 in the Region, while the Willamette men's team is ranked #9.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) holds the #1 spot in the West Region women's rankings with 514.20 points. George Fox University is #2 with 468.34 points and the University of La Verne (Calif.) is listed at #3 at 394.15. Rounding out the top 5 are California Lutheran University at #4 with 326.26 points and Whitworth University at #5 with 303.83. Willamette is #6 with 284.97 points.
In addition to George Fox, Whitworth and Willamette, other Northwest Conference teams listed in the women's regional rankings are Pacific Lutheran University at #9 and Linfield College at #10.
The West Region men's rankings are led by Whitworth University with 639.14 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has the #2 ranking with 582.86 points. La Verne is next at #3 with 351.20 points, while the University of Redlands (Calif.) is #4 with 268.33 points. Pacific Lutheran is #5 at 221.13 points. Willamette is #9 with 174.46 points.
Northwest Conference teams in the men's regional rankings include Whitworth, Pacific Lutheran and Willamette, as well as the University of Puget Sound at #7.
In the women's national rankings, Wartburg College (Iowa) is the #1 team with 223.90 points. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is listed at #2 with 148.01 points and Williams College (Mass.) is #3 at 106.92. Illinois College holds down the #4 spot with 97,48 points, while Illinois Wesleyan University is #5 with 96.78 points.
At the top of the men's national rankings is North Central College (Illinois) at 183.45 points. Wisconsin-Oshkosh is ranked #2 with 163.20 points. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is #3 with 150.03 points and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is #4 with 149.28 points. Whitworth is #5 and has 106.88 points.
The Bearcats are hosting the Willamette Invitational at the Charles Bowles Track on Saturday, April 6. Action gets underway with field events starting at 9:30 a.m. (PDT). Events on the track will begin at 11 a.m. Each year, the Willamette Invitational is one of the largest college track and field meets on the West Coast.
