Hall of Fame Focus: Baseball Player Matt Kosderka
SALEM, ORE. -- Each day between Oct. 10 and the Willamette University Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 19, the Hall of Fame Focus will highlight one of the individuals or teams being inducted. Baseball pitcher Matt Kosderka, who was named First Team All-America as a senior featured today.
A total of five former Bearcat student-athletes, two teams, one coach and one individual selected for meritorious service will be inducted into the WU Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.
The induction ceremony will be held at the Salem Convention Center. A social hour will start at 6 p.m. (PDT), with the banquet and induction ceremony starting at 7 p.m.

During his four-year pitching career from 1995 through 1998, Matt Kosderka set Willamette records for total wins (30) and innings pitched (350 1/3). He ranks second all-time for appearances (53), complete games (25), starts (42) and strikeouts (265). He is seventh on the career list with a 3.60 earned run average and is tied for seventh with five saves.
As a senior, Kosderka was named NAIA First Team All-America. He also was chosen as the Northwest Conference Player of the Year.
Kosderka also set single season records during his senior year with 109 strikeouts and 102 1/3 innings pitched, while tying a school record with 10 wins. Following his Willamette career, Kosderka was drafted by the Texas Rangers and played four seasons in the minor leagues before retiring in 2001.
He served as the head baseball coach at Wilsonville High School (Ore.) for 10 seasons. He was named Class 5A Baseball Coach of the Year by The Oregonian in 2011.
Kosderka recently joined the Willamette coaching staff as an assistant baseball coach.
