Willamette Ties Whitworth, 0-0 in Two Overtimes
Sewall Earns Shutout with Seven Saves
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Led by the strong play of its defense, the Willamette University women's soccer team tied Whitworth University, 0-0 in two overtimes, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Willamette recorded its third tie and fifth shutout in the last six games, while moving to 4-10-3 overall, 2-8-3 in the NWC. Whitworth ended the game at 6-7-5 overall, 3-6-5 in the NWC.
WU goalkeeper Emily Sewall (Fr., Petaluma, CA/Casa Grande HS) provided the Bearcats with seven saves during the 110 minutes of playing time. Andrea Stump registered five saves for the Pirates.
Whitworth achieved a 19-10 advantage in total shots and concluded the game with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Sarah Desautels (Jr., MF/F, Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak HS) led Willamette with three shots.
The Pirates' leading scorer, Tiara Pajimola, took a game-high 10 total shots and topped all players with four shots on goal. Seven of her 10 shots came in the first half. Jami Hegg and Abbie Moseley added three shots apiece, with each player registering one shot on goal.
Willamette's shots on goal included one each by Desautels, Rachel Fleener (So., F, Olympia, WA/Olympia HS), Kinsey Keene (Fr., MF, Eagle, ID/Eagle HS), and Jaclyn Parnell (Fr., D, West Richland, WA/Richland HS).
Fleener forced a save by Stump in the first overtime at 98:52. In the second overtime, Parnell placed a shot on frame at 103:40, but Stump was again up to the task.
Whitworth had a slight edge in corner kicks, as the Pirates earned six and the Bearcats achieved five. Willamette was called for nine fouls against six for Whitworth.
The Bearcats will conclude their Eastern Washington road trip on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Whitman College. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (PST).
