Continuing Non-Tenure Track Chemistry Instructor

Position Summary

CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTOR.  WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY, a selective Liberal Arts college in the Pacific Northwest, invites applications for a continuing non tenure-track Chemistry Instructor position to begin August 2015.  A Ph.D. in chemistry is required.  The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate students in introductory chemistry, a non-science majors course and, potentially, organic chemistry. The candidate will also direct the introductory laboratory sequence, which includes supervising laboratory preparation, coordinating lab curriculum development, and leading a team of laboratory instructors, student teaching assistants, and laboratory preparation personnel.  Contributing to an innovative chemistry curriculum in an inclusive environment and participating in academic advising is expected.  The successful candidate will be joining an ACS-approved Chemistry Department (www.willamette.edu/cla/chem) whose faculty members are committed to high quality, collaborative teaching and scholarship.  Willamette University and its Chemistry faculty strive to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.  We seek candidates, particularly those from historically under-represented groups, whose work furthers diversity and who bring to campus varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemistry is required. ABD will be considered, must have Ph.D. by the time position starts in August 2015.

The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and will have expertise in a wide variety of chemical instrumentation.

Visiting Assistant Professor

Position Summary

BIOCHEMISTRY. The Chemistry Department at Willamette University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to fill a one-year appointment starting in August 2015.  The position may be renewed for up to two additional years. Possible teaching responsibilities include introductory chemistry, introductory chemistry laboratory, biochemistry, experimental biochemistry lab, advanced topics in biochemistry, and mentoring undergraduate research projects.  Opportunities will also exist to teach organic chemistry and/or organic chemistry laboratory depending on the candidate’s background.  The typical teaching load is two lecture courses and two laboratory sections per semester.  This position is eligible for medical and dental benefits.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are ABD in Chemistry. Ideal candidate will have Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry. A demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching is required. Additional experience in organic chemistry is preferred.
