French and Francophone Studies

The French and Francophone Studies Department offers courses in French language and literature. By following a carefully designed program, French and Francophone Studies students learn to communicate; to think and write critically; and to appreciate the literary, social, and cultural traditions of the francophone world.

Did you know?

French is the official language in 33 countries and is spoken in nearly 60 communities around the world. Fifty-five countries officially belong to La Francophonie. With over 200 million speakers, French is the only language other than English that is spoken on every continent. French and English are the only two global languages.
