Don Thomson, M.S., L.P.C., A.C.S.
- Counseling Services Director
Don assumed the role of Director of Counseling Services at Willamette University in 2007 after several years in college and university mental health. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon, Nationally Approved Clinical Supervisor, currently serves as a board member of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, and enjoys teaching in an adjunct role in our regional professional training programs. He worked for many years in non-profit human services and community mental health, specializing in dual-diagnosed adolescents and adults. His theoretical orientation is primarily an integrative, strengths based, cognitive behavioral approach, with a focus on acceptance, balance, values clarification, and authenticity as primary goals. He sees the therapeutic relationship as critical to a successful counseling experience, and works hard to build a meaningful treatment alliance with students. Clinical areas of interest include anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, interpersonal violence and sexual assault prevention and response, identity development, men and masculinity, and supervision of interns and trainees. Committed to social justice, Don works hard to make Willamette and Bishop Wellness Center a safe and inclusive environment. He supervises the Office of Disability Services, and actively serves on several standing campus committees charged with the support and retention of our amazing Willamette students.
Rebecca Miller-Moe, Ph.D.
Becky has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health and employee assistance, before joining the Bishop staff for the 1995/96 academic year. Her approach to counseling is process oriented with a focus on creating safe space for disclosure and self exploration in service of navigating developmental milestones. Based on a model of change emphasizing the client's narrative and the dynamic nature of relationships as a vehicle for change, techniques utilized are an eclectic mix drawn from solution focused, narrative, experiential and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy models. Becky is currently learning about mindfulness and neurobiology and identifying ways to incorporate new material into her practice and maintains a small private practice treating adolescents and adults, with professional interests including trauma, family and marital therapy, and career adjustment.
Katie Diershaw, Psy.D.
- Psychologist Resident
Katie Diershaw, PsyD is a Psychologist Resident and has experience in a variety of settings including university counseling, neuropsychological assessment, community mental health, and juvenile forensics. As an Integrative therapist, Katie draws from Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt, Buddhist Psychology, and Mindfulness-based therapies. She emphasizes a holistic perspective on health and focuses on working collaboratively with clients to assist them in developing patterns of growth that are driven by client values, achieving balance, and creating meaning. Katie is a generalist who sees clients presenting with a broad range of concerns. Her clinical specialties include working with clients to address anxiety disorders, trauma, ADHD/LD, and with LGBTQIA populations. Her research has focused on anxiety disorder and trauma treatment, stalking in university aged populations, suicide, PTSD, and ethics. In her free time Katie enjoys hiking, karaoke, yoga, science fiction, and gustatory adventures. She is passionate about social justice and enjoys participating in volunteer, educational, and outreach activities
Tony Davis, Psy.D.
- Psychologist Resident
Tony recently earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University, in Portland, OR, and currently is a psychologist resident. He has a master’s degree in School Psychology from Texas State University. Before returning to school to complete his doctorate in clinical psychology, Tony worked as a licensed specialist in school psychology in the public school system. As a school psychologist he provided assessments and counseling to children, adolescents, and young adults to support their educational achievement. Tony’s areas of clinical interest include multicultural and diversity issues, anxiety, and mood disorders. Tony has provided services in a variety of institutions including in-patient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, college counseling, and the public school system. Tony’s theoretical orientation is integrative, with a foundation in Gestalt, feminist, Buddhist and cognitive behavioral psychology. Additionally, he incorporates multicultural perspectives into his clinical work.
