Willamette University was recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as first in the nation for sustainability activities. NWF’s “Campus Environment 2008: A National Report Card on Sustainability in Higher Education” surveyed 1,068 participating colleges and universities, and ranked Willamette as the school engaged in the greatest number of sustainability activities.
Willamette's definition of “sustainability” goes beyond an ecological concept and honors sustainability in four ways: Education, Environment, Equity and Economics. Without marginalizing the significance of achieving ecological and economic sustainability, the Willamette community is dedicated to advancing a more just society, both now and for future generations.
