What the Research Says About OWP

An affiliate of the National Writing Project (NWP), OWP is a respected leader in the area of professional development for teachers in all disciplines and grade levels.

  • Ninety-seven percent of teachers surveyed by Inverness Research Associates in 2004 said that NWP professional development is better than other types of professional development they have experienced.
  • Ninety-seven percent said that what they learn via the Writing Project translates into improved writing skills for their students.
  • A 2006 NWP summary report of national results showed that for every one of the measured attributes of writing, the improvement of students taught by NWP participating teachers exceeded that of students of those teachers who were not participants.

A noteworthy pattern in the data displayed consistently positive outcomes for conventions. For more information about the National Writing Project and its affiliates see www.writingproject.org.
