Willamette ranks among top colleges for Peace Corps volunteers
Willamette University ranks 13th in the country this year among small colleges and universities for number of Peace Corps volunteers, with 18 undergraduate alumni currently serving.
Year after year, Willamette places in the top 15 in the Peace Corps’ college rankings. Since the Peace Corps was founded in 1961, more than 300 Willamette alumni have joined.
These alumni are continuing a tradition of service they began as students, following the Willamette motto, “Not unto ourselves alone are we born.” Willamette was also one of six colleges in the country to earn a Presidential Award through the Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for a commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.
Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment, and volunteers have served around the world, working on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation.
