Former Bearcat earns fourth consecutive national running title

Former Bearcat runner Nick Symmonds ’06 won his fourth national title in a row on Sunday when he took first place in the 800 meters at the USA Track & Field Championships, held in Eugene, Ore.

Symmonds’ time of 1:44.17 was the fastest time in the event by an American this year. He runs for Oregon Track Club Elite.

Symmonds represented the U.S. at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, advancing to the semifinals of the 800.

While competing at Willamette, Symmonds won four NCAA Division III national championships in the 800 meters, and claimed three NCAA national titles in the 1,500 meters.
