Kiplinger's names Willamette University a best value

Willamette University is ranked 72nd for best value among the nation’s private liberal arts colleges, according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

The 2012 report ranked 200 schools that best combine outstanding quality with affordability — with quality accounting for two-thirds of the total assessment.

Kiplinger’s considers such criteria as average student debt, standardized test scores, student-to-faculty ratio, graduate rate and net price — the cost after factoring in need- and merit-based financial aid, excluding loans.

More than 600 private institutions were evaluated for the listing.

Earlier this year, the university was featured in The Princeton Review’s “The Best 377 Colleges,” Washington Monthly’s “College Guide,” Forbes’ “America’s Top Colleges,” and the Fiske “Guide to Colleges.”

Willamette was also showcased in the book, “Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About College.” In it, Willamette was commended for its dedicated teaching staff and commitment to community service.
