Smith Auditorium is Willamette’s largest indoor venue for arts and community events.
Students and the community attend lectures and events on everything from politics to science to pop culture in the 1,250-seat auditorium.
Operas, symphony concerts and student a capella performances are just a few of the arts events hosted in Smith.
Acclaimed writer John Irving is one of many notable people who have graced Smith’s stage as part of the Atkinson Lecture Series. Other recent lecturers have included economist Paul Krugman and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Every year, Willamette hosts a weeklong celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. that includes a performance by a famous musical group or activist. Recent visitors have included the Blind Boys of Alabama (above), Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Angela Davis.
