The College of Law’s mission statement is as follows:
Willamette University College of Law prepares students for successful and satisfying careers in law in a variety of local, national, and international settings. We provide a learning environment that is distinctive among law schools, emphasizing small enrollment, excellence in teaching and a high level of faculty-student interaction in and out of the classroom. Our goal is to equip law students with the skills and attitudes needed to solve problems. As a community we are committed to the advancement of knowledge through research and scholarship, to diversity and to public service, consistent with our university’s motto: not unto ourselves alone are we born—non nobis solum nati sumus.
This mission statement was drafted by the late Professor Robert Art in 1999, and adopted by the faculty on January 12, 2000. The faculty reaffirmed this mission statement on September 20, 2006.
