The International Association of Sports Law (IASL) honored Willamette Law Professor James Nafziger with its first-ever AISIMNITIS Award for contributions to the development of international sports law. The award, a large silver plate with a relief of an ancient Greece games judge, was presented to Nafziger at the association's annual meeting held November 25-27 in Athens, Greece.
"Professor Nafziger is a giant in international sports law," said Law Dean Symeon Symeonides. "So we are pleased, but not surprised that he would receive such an international honor."
The IASL, which is comprised of individuals in sports federations and the Olympics as well as sports law attorneys, law faculty and scholars interested in international and comparative sports law, also announced that Nafziger has been elected as its new president. Nafziger, who was presented with a mounted replica of an ancient Greek urn in recognition of his election, will serve as president for a three-year term.
