Living Our Motto: Hurricane Katrina

Holli Davenport’s E-mail to the University Community

Over the years I have learned that in times of crisis the Willamette University community always wants to help. So I’m sure many of us would like to find ways to help those left homeless by the devastation from Hurricane Katrina.

There are many organizations that provide excellent disaster relief. Because Willamette is a United Methodist-related university, I’d like to be sure you are aware of the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Because administrative costs are funded through other denominational sources, 100% of any tax-deductible contributions made to UMCOR are used for the relief effort specified by the donor. UMCOR is already actively on site in western Florida, Alabama and Louisiana.

If you would like to make a donation through UMCOR to help those displaced by this year’s hurricane season, you may mail a check, payable to UMCOR, to: UMCOR, PO Box 9068, New York NY 10087-9068. In the memo line, please indicate “UMCOR Advance #982523.” You may also contribute by phone (1-800-554-8583) or online (http://www.methodistrelief.org/) using a credit card.

Thanks for caring!
