Zena Forest and Farm

Internships

Students wanting to receive academic credit for their work on the farm may wish to pursue one of two internship positions available during the school year.

Farm to Table Internship

This internship is a collaboration between leaders at Zena Forest and Farm and Bon Appetit, Willamette University’s food service provider. Interns will explore the connection between farms and the people they provide for by observing all steps of the process: growing, harvesting, delivering, food preparation, and its final presentation to the consumer.

Requirements

  • 6-10 hours per week
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Access to a car is preferable

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planting, cultivating, harvesting, and delivery of crops
  • Help with the student run farm stand
  • Participate in marketing Zena Farm products and opportunities
  • Read books and articles to understand crop management practices at Zena Farm

We prefer applicants to have

  • A strong interest learning about sustainable food systems
  • A desire to eventually work in a food related business
  • A strong work ethic, the ability to work independently and self-motivate

Farm Manager Internship

The Farm Manager Intern will spend much of his/her time shadowing the Farm Manager to learn sustainable agriculture practices and methods in place at Zena Forest and Farm. Additional time will be spent reading books and/or articles about sustainable agriculture methods. Farm Manager Intern duties will relate directly to the growing and marketing of our crops.

Requirements

  • 6-10 hours per week
