Recent Headlines

Zuri Salinas Zuri wants to go to a good college and maybe become an FBI agent as she finds profiling to be very interesting. Right now though, Zuri likes her language arts class. She has been reading and writing stories since she was little, and says she can make up a story out of anything. Outside of academics and the Academy, Zuri enjoys playing volleyball, the flute, and is starting piano lessons.

Danny Gutierrez The staff has really allowed Danny to feel comfortable with his surroundings, as he knows that if he has a problem, he can simply go and talk to his mentor or the Academic Support Coordinator and get help. Danny also finds that other resources the program offers are incredibly helpful especially when it comes to job exploration. While he knows he wants to focus on something with math, he is currently undecided when it comes to a future career but the many professionals the Academy brings in to talk about their own jobs lets him know that there are many options out there.

Zoe Birkholz During summer camp, Zoe is able to get to know her friends here at the Academy better and that all the activities just make the time fun. Before entering the program, Zoe was shy and had difficulty getting out of her own bubble, but through through events like the summer program, she has found that she is now more open with meeting new people and talking with teachers.

Leonor Alvarez Leonor has largely enjoyed the Academy because of the great people in it. Never finding a person who has been rude has been a great experience for Leonor, and she has really appreciated how helpful the staff is when it comes to school and beyond.

Roberto Ramirez Describing WA as a “second home,” Roberto explains that he has become very comfortable with the Academy and is pleased with the environment it has provided. He feels that the many activities that are put on, like the CORE sessions, have helped everyone really bond together. While he admits he was timid about entering the program at first, as he wasn’t quite sure what the Academy was all about, he can look back at his past three years here and can say he is happy with is decision.
