More than 50% of Willamette students study internationally by the time they graduate. Willamette offers programs in 40 different countries, which allows students to tailor their experience based on their interests and motivations.
The process of studying abroad actually begins as soon as you arrive to campus: your cumulative academic record while here at Willamette has a lot to do with your ability to make the grade somewhere across the world. Willamette's study abroad programs are very accessible, but they are also experiences that require preparation. This is where the Office of International Education comes in - they are experts at helping you decide what sort of program to look at and how to make it happen.
In addition to traditional study abroad programs, Willamette offers options such as post sessions. Post sessions are shorter international study experiences that are connected to special Willamette courses. For example, students typically spend a conventional semester on campus and then continue their studies, alongside the professor they spent the semester with, in the country(s) relevant to their preceding coursework.
International study is usually a very formative experience. As 2007 graduate Jaris Oshiro recalls, "Studying abroad is an amalgam of studying the language, learning the cultural idiosyncrasies, embarrassing yourself in different situations, eating strange but delicious foods, traveling, and, of course, studying.
