Whether it’s a wedding or a $100 million construction of a bridge, they both are projects. Projects have a collection of key factors that must be balanced. Among them project management life cycle, cost ratios, communication management, earn value methodology, scheduling management, risk management, and project close-out must be considered. These principles have been generalized and benchmarked to apply to any project. Students will have the opportunity to learn the best practices of project management and standards which the industry uses.
Students will leverage their individual backgrounds to cultivate those skills appropriate for their professional career trajectories. As more industries recognize the value of properly trained and qualified project managers, the more they will hire people with these skills. Project Management offer opportunities in any career path. With the right balance of preparation and dedication, students will acquire fundamental competence in project management |
Coordinating a myriad of stakeholders, executing on a tight deadline, delivering a superior project, and marketing and implementation efforts may sound like enough work for an entire team, but Jon Lazarus works these issues everyday for the Oregon Department of Transportation, Research Section. Jon has worked as a Project Manager within ODOT's Intelligent Transportation Section, where he helped develop and enhance systems that the public plan trips around Oregon, like TripCheck.com and the 511 phone system. Jon was apart of the team launching the "Dial 511" phone system back in December 2003. Prior to that, Jon worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as a project manager on their Y2K effort for the Napa Data Center in California, where he reported directly to the board of directors.
Jon brings nine years experience in the public and private sectors, an engineering background and an impressive list of successfully executed projects to the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. Not only is Jon a certified professional by the Project Management Institute, and President of the Institute’s Willamette Valley Chapter (Salem Branch), he also helps prepare project management professionals for their certification exam.
He has spoken before organizations in the not-for-profit sector on project management. Jon has also published research on behalf of the Department of Transportation on a variety of topics, including Fleet Purchase/Decommissioning Decisions, Work Zone Enhancement Operations and Electronic Billboard Signage.
When he has the time, Jon likes to spend time with his family (wife and two daughters), SCUBA dive, and golf. |
