Biography

Susan Long brings her experience in project management and marketing communications to Willamette, working with both the MBA for Professionals and Full-Time MBA programs. Through the Career Management office, Susan advises students through their intership program and evaluates their progress as part of the Internships for Managers course (I and II).

Susan has served as Assistant Director of Marketing Communications at TIP (a GE Capital Company), the Public Information Officer for the Township of Lower Merion in Pennsylvania, and a Project Manager for Rittenhouse Communications.

During her time at The College of New Jersey, Susan served as the Director for Public Information and Marketing and served as the chief spokesperson for The College in her role as Public Information Officer. Susan implemented recruitment and marketing initiatives, managed publications and budget and developed communications policies.

Susan has also served as a reporter for the Camden Courier Post and Delaware Valley News.

She has also served as an adjunct and part-time instructor for The College of New Jersey, Pioneer Pacific College and Portland Community College.

Susan volunteers as a co-leader for the Girl Scout Troup #644 in the Columbia River Council.

Internships for Managers Course

Internships for Managers are for students participating in an internship with an employer during their MBA experience. This course provides students the opportunity to undertake professional level employment that leverages their first year MBA studies and supports their career objectives while earning credits toward their degree. Upon successful completion of the course(s), students will have applied first year studies to the conduct of their internship and, specifically, to the production of professional level deliverables appropriate to their position and to their workgroup's function.

Internship I and II require students to complete a significant work experience, check in with the “Contributing Assistant Professor for Internships and Projects” every 2 weeks, write a position plan, write a final paper (includes a SWOT, discussion of how the student applied their first year coursework to the internship, and takeaways from the internship), and participate in a final meeting with the “Contributing Assistant Professor for Internships and Projects.”
