The MBA/JD program combines the respected resources of the Willamette University's College of Law and Atkinson Graduate School of Management. The program is four years in length and results in two professional degrees: the Master of Business Administration and the Doctor of Jurisprudence. Willamette's MBA/JD program is dually accredited for law (American Bar Association) and business (AACSB International). In addition, the areas of interest offered within the Willamette MBA/JD program provide special advantages for students anticipating careers in corporate law, trust administration, tax law, regulation, public sector management, entrepreneurial ventures, consulting and private legal practice. During the first two years of the four year program, MBA/JD students complete
one academic year in the MBA program and one in the law program. MBA/JD students may pursue their individual MBA career interests in general management or one or more of the following areas of interest: Students interested in international management will also find an assortment of courses that support their career interests.
During the third and fourth years of the MBA/JD program, students are
concurrently enrolled in the law and MBA program. Generally, third and fourth-year
MBA/JD students will take two-thirds of their courses at the College of Law and
one-third at the Atkinson School. MBA courses to be completed during the years
of concurrent enrollment include required and elective courses as shown below.
Candidates for the joint degree program must apply and be admitted to both the College of Law and the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. Admission to one of the degree programs does not guarantee admission to the other. The College of Law and the Atkinson School also award scholarships separately. A scholarship given by one program does not apply while a student is studying at the other program. MBA/JD students who receive scholarship assistance from the MBA program will receive the scholarship only for the first academic year in which they are enrolled full-time in the MBA program.
