After graduating, Astrid completed an internship at Holt International - an agency for international adoptions - and then worked for a post-adoption organization in Portland. In 2004, Dabbeni realized her dream by founding the Adoption Mosaic, a non-profit organization providing educational resources and ongoing support to all those influenced by adoption. In addition to serving as the Executive Director of Adoption Mosaic, Dabbeni travels the country to lead youth groups, present workshops on transracial parenting and talk with children about adoption.

Dabbeni was born in Columbia and adopted by an American couple. In 2011, she located and met her birth mother, and learned that she and her sister had not been “given up” for adoption. In fact, they had disappeared during a time when their mother had left them in the care of a landlady. Her personal story has attracted media interest and provided inspiration for new topics for trainings.
