Dr. Jane Goodall to speak at Willamette University
As we noted last month, Willamette, in association with the Jane Goodall Institute, will feature a discussion between Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, and David Miller, host of Oregon Public Broadcasting’s “Think Out Loud,” on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the university’s Smith Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 for “The Power of Youth is Global.” There will be a book signing following the discussion, and Jane Goodall Institute merchandise and memberships will be available.
Dr. Goodall, world-renowned primatologist, conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace, will discuss Roots & Shoots, the Jane Goodall Institute’s global environmental and humanitarian youth program.
Roots & Shoots empowers young people from preschool through college to create positive change for people, animals and the environment. With hundreds of thousands of members in more than 120 countries, the organization’s network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world.
Dr. Goodall’s discussion celebrates the 20th anniversary of Roots & Shoots and focuses on the global empowerment of youth, growing Roots & Shoots in the region and how we can work together to create a brighter future for all those who call this planet home.
To check on ticket availability, call the university information desk at 503-370-6300.
We are aware that Dr. Goodall's lecture coincides with Kol Nidre, on the eve of Yom Kippur. Since she was already scheduled to be in Salem for another event on Oct. 7, the opportunity for a campus lecture was offered with no flexibility on the date. We understand and regret that not all community members may be able to attend.
