WU Welcomes Incoming Students -- Lots of Them
This year's incoming class of first-year students is pleasantly large, according to the latest numbers from the Office of Admission. In a crucial economic year, a robust enrollment is particularly useful, and as campus prepares for students' arrival later in the month, we're all looking forward to meeting the new members of the Willamette community.
Over 540 first-year students, 47 transfer students and 26 international exchange students have committed to enroll. Application numbers have more than doubled in the last two years (from 2,983 in 2007 to 6,026 in 2009), a trend that has enabled Willamette to become more selective.
The median GPA held by first-year students is 3.75 and transfers are entering with a 3.65. Twenty-nine percent of the class hails from Oregon; 22 percent are students of color; 20 percent are highly desirable athletes; 10 percent are first generation college students; and six percent have alumni ties.
We extend a warm welcome to all the future Willamette alumni who are joining us this year!
