At its May 20 Administrative and Classified Excellence (ACE) Awards Luncheon, Willamette named Reyna Meyers as classified employee of the year and Stephanie Nixon as administrative employee of the year.

Reyna Meyers works as an administrative assistant for the College of Law and the Center for Religion, Law and Democracy. She was named employee of the year for the exceptional quality of her work and her many contributions to campus life. Reyna also participates on the university's Sustainability Council, a group that coordinates many of the activities for which Willamette is known as a national leader.

"Most of all, Reyna is an eternal optimist and someone you can count on to greet each day and each challenge with a smile and a ‘can do' attitude," said Kathy Graham, associate dean at Willamette's College of Law. "She not only works hard on the job, but she enjoys participating in Willamette activities in her time away from work."

Beyond her duties as Associate Director of Residence Life, Stephanie Nixon volunteers with Willamette Academy -- the university's college-access program for traditionally underrepresented youth -- and many other campus organizations, such as the Office of Multicultural Affairs for Martin Luther King Jr. Week.

Nixon is known for keen judgment and compassion. "Stephanie fosters an environment that celebrates diversity," said Marilyn Derby, Director of Residence Life.

"Stephanie has changed lives through her service to Willamette Academy," said Bob Casarez, Director of Willamette Academy. As a mentor who helps students complete college applications or prepare for SATs, "she inspires students to believe in themselves."

About the award

After open nominations each year, the ACE committee evaluates the nominees and selects employees-of-the-year, whose names are displayed on a plaque in Waller Hall. Employees-of-the-year are given a reserved parking space in the lot of their choice for one year.
