Six Willamette athletes to compete at nationals

Two Willamette tennis players and six track and field athletes have been selected to compete at the national championships later this week for NCAA Division III.

Natalia Agarycheva ’11 will compete in singles and will join Shannon Palmer ’12 competing in doubles at the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships, held May 27–29 in Claremont, Calif.

Six Bearcats will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 26–28 on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Kimber Mattox ’11 will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run, and Brandi Miller ’12 will compete in the heptathlon.

For the men’s team, Leo Castillo ’12 will compete in the 10,000-meter run, Evin Colignon ’11 in the decathlon, David Oppat ’11 in the shot put, and Stefan Redfield ’11 in the 1,500-meter run.

New youth sport camps and clinics to take place this summer

The department of Athletics is pleased to announce a series of summer youth sport camps and clinics. The camps and clinics are led by experienced varsity athletic coaches and are designed to build and enhance skills in a fun and safe environment.

Willamette University's Pro Hoop Camp

“The Best Fundamental Camp in the Northwest… teaching you life through basketball, competition and fun.”

Rookie Week: July 5-8 (ages 7-10)
Girls Week: July 10-14 (ages 10-17)
Boys Week I: July 17-21 (ages 10-17)
Boys Week II: July 24-28 (ages 10-17)

Cost:  Rookies ($140), Boys/Girls Week Commuter ($280), Boys/Girls Week Resident ($370)
 
Willamette Swim School

“Willamette Swim School is staffed by experienced instructors that provide safe, well-rounded, and fun swim instruction to ages 4-14 years old. Classes are taught in small groups.  Private lessons are also available.”

Session 1: June 20-July 1
Session 2: July 11-July 22
Session 3: July 25-August 5

Monday-Friday: 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, 5:00 – 6:00 PM (30 minute lessons)

Cost:  $60 per session

Willamette Volleyball Summer Camps

Bearcat Ball Control Skills Camp

“The clinic is designed to teach techniques to help improve a player’s ball control skills.”

June 24-25 (8th-12th grade)

Cost:  $65    

Bearcat All Skills Camp                   

“This camp will teach the fundamental skills of volleyball using clear and precise techniques for each skill. This camp is designed to quickly build understanding of the game for beginners and also to challenge those who might have more experience.”

June 26-28 (5th – 8th grade)

Cost:  $110

Bearcat Advanced Attack Camp
 
“This camp will teach the advanced skills of hitting, blocking and serving using distinct techniques for each skill. The camp is designed to teach techniques that will help in the attacking phase of the game for junior varsity and varsity players.”  

June 29 – July 1 (Varsity or JV players)

Cost:  $110           

Nike Softball Camps

“Directed by Bearcat softball coach Damian Williams, the Nike Softball Camps at Willamette are designed to help campers get an edge on the competition through the instruction of college-level skills and strategies.”

July 11-15 (High School Camp)
August 1-5 (ages 8-16)

Cost:  $455 for overnight or $355 for day (some discounts available for Willamette University employees)

Willamette Baseball Camp

“A great opportunity for kids (ages 7-14) to learn the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, hitting and base running.”

July 11-13 (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
July 20-22 (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
August 1-3 (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

Cost:  $180
