Fall NCAA sports update

Recent entries from the athletics newsreel:

Men's golf: Led by an individual third place finish from freshman Ryan Kukula (in his first college tourney), the Willamette men's golf team took third place overall at the Pacific Invitational The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore.

Women's soccer: The Bearcat women surprised rival Linfield with a strong 3-1 victory Sept. 25. All of the scoring occurred in the final 25 minutes of play. The Bearcats moved up to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Northwest Conference; Linfield dropped to 5-2-1 and 2-1-1 respectively, level with Willamette in in-conference play.

Men's tennis: Three members of the men's tennis team competed in the Round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Pacific Northwest Fall Championships on Sunday, Sept. 25, in Walla Walla. The tournament was hosted by Whitman College; the Missionaries appear to be the team to beat, having fielded seven of eight spots in the quarterfinals.

Rugby squad to compete in Seaside, Ore., for Mayor's Cup Feb. 25

Willamette University vs. Oregon State University

In February, the Rugby team will take on Oregon State at a new venue -- Broadway Field in Seaside. There is a community focus to the event, as the matchup will be followed by a social with players from both teams. This is the first time Seaside has hosted such an event.
