MAT students benefit from career assistance

On Monday, March 4, the GSE welcomed close to 30 administrators from the Salem-Keizer School District to offer career assistance to MAT students.

Each MAT student was offered a 30-minute one-on-one interview with an administrator. During the interview, teacher candidates were evaluated personally by the administrator on their teaching skills, preparation and experiences within the MAT program. There were other events throughout the night designed to help MAT teacher candidates prepare for the impending job search. To help navigate through the complicated application system, HR representatives provided direct assistance to our students. In addition, a faculty-facilitated panel of administrators answered pressing questions, and students received resume and cover letter assistance. Salem Keizer conference

This personalized approach is new this year. Previously events offered the general public short mock interviews with administrators, but smaller groups this time proved mutually beneficial to our students and the administrators alike.

Almost all graduating MAT students participated in the event. The GSE will graduate nearly 90 teachers in June.
