Willamette Athletics Hosts Career Night
Over a Dozen Bearcat Alumni Return to Speak to Current Student-Athletes
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University Department of Athletics hosted its Second Annual Athletics Career Night on Monday, April 7, at Cone Field House. The event featured presentations from more than a dozen Bearcat athletic alumni about the influence of intercollegiate athletics on their careers.
Presenters included alumni who played a wide variety of sports at Willamette, including baseball, basketball, golf, football, soccer, track and volleyball.
Matt Benjamin (Northwestern Mutual), Ben Bryant (City of Tualatin), Justin Cole (TVTI), Steve Collins (Daimler Trucks North America), BJ Dobrkovsky (Sprague High School), Sara (Brooks) Elcano (Oregon State University Athletic Department), Monica Fiedler (Calvary Chapel), Geoff Gore (Rippey Engineers), Mike Hmura (PT Northwest), Nicole Mertens (Portland General Electric), Andy Miguel (Nike) and Kevin VandenBrink (Macadam Forbes) were the alumni speakers.
WU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members Andrew Lum (So., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School), from the men's swimming team, and Alex Hansen (Sr., Reno, NV/Galena HS), from the men's basketball team, organized Athletics Career Night.
Jerry Houser, Willamette University's Director of Career Services, and Colleen Sump, Willamette's Director for Alumni and Parent Engagement, helped facilitate the event, along with Director of Athletics David Rigsby and the Willamette University Alumni Association.
The program concluded with an opportunity for one-on-one networking between the alumni panelists and 100 student-athletes who attended the event.
