Sra Wins Individual Title at Willamette Cup, as Bearcats Take First Place

Shoots an 82 to Triumph by Three Strokes at OGA Golf Course

WOODBURN, ORE. -- Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) from Willamette University achieved first place with a score of 82, leading the Bearcats to the team championship at the Willamette Cup, held on Saturday, April 19 at the Oregon Golf Association Golf Course.

Willamette finished with a team score of 354. Pacific University placed second at 460. Linfield College did not enter a complete team.

Sra won the individual title by three strokes over Maggie Harlow from Linfield, who placed second with an 85. LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) of Willamette was third with an 86.

Four strokes behind Gallup in fourth place was Alexandria Smith of Linfield with a 90. Jennifer Andreas from Pacific placed fifth at 91.

Sra and Gallup were joined on the Willamette team by Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Manogue HS) and Mckenzie Weinhold (Jr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno). Levy placed sixth at 92 and Weinhold finished seventh with a 94.

The golfers had to deal with changing conditions from sunny to windy to raining.

Willamette retained the cup, which the Bearcats won in 2013. As  a freshman in last year's tournament, Sra placed in the individual standings.

The Bearcats will be back in action at the OGA Golf Course during the Northwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. The 36-hole event will feature all nine NWC teams.

Entering the tournament, Willamette is third place in the NWC standings. George Fox University is in first place and Whitman College is in second. The NWC Tournament will count for the final half of the NWC team title.
