WU Rowing Wins Two Events at Head of the Silcox

Two Bearcat Boats Finish in First Place

TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette rowing team competed at the Head of Silcox on Saturday, Oct. 17 at American Lake. Willamette had six boats compete in the event, which was hosted by the University of Puget Sound. Willamette's women's novice 8+ and the women's second novice 8+ finished in first place for the Bearcats.

In the women's novice 8+, Willamette claimed first place first place. The University of Puget Sound was second, followed by Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran University. The WU women's second novice 8+ also earned possession of first place in its race. Puget Sound took second place.

For the Bearcat men, the varsity 8+ finished in second place in one race and third in another. In the men's novice 8+ finished second place in one race and third in another.

Also competing for Willamette were the women's varsity 8+, which finished in second in one race and third in their other race. Willamette's final boat was the women's varsity 4+. It finished in second place in one race and third in another race.

Extreme weather conditions, including thunder and lightning, caused the course to be shortened. Willamette was competing without their entire team. Currently, the Bearcats have two boats rowing at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass.
