The performance of orchestral music is much like baking a cake. First we must gather our ingredients (instruments), then we mix them together (rehearsal) according to the recipe (score) created by the composer. Sounds simple enough, but how does it work? The 2010 SCO Family Concert will explore how composers combine different instrumental ingredients to create sounds and colors from the orchestra and the role that each instrument plays in creating the perfect musical dessert.
