Willamette University Debate Union

The Willamette University Debate Union offers three interrelated programs: Intercollegiate Debate, Public Debate, and International Debate.

Virtually all students who pass through the Debate Union will participate in the Intercollegiate Debate program. Students from Intercollegiate Debate can also  participate in the International Debate Program and the Public Debate Program.

In some instances, students who do not participate in Intercollegiate Debate may be chosen for the Public Advocacy Programs, also known as the Philomathean Society. Our public advocacy program sponsors programs such as a voter registration drive as well as campus debates.

To the extent afforded by our resources, any Willamette University student can elect to participate in the Debate Union for a minimum of one academic year. Following that year, all students will be asked to apply for participation.
