The study of Art and Art History at Willamette is part of the general liberal arts experience. The department creates a structure of reference in which art and its history exist as an integral component of one's life. We hold to rigorous standards of professional teaching as we direct our efforts toward producing professionals in both studio work and art scholarship. We are no less serious in recognizing those who are not going to become professionals and work to inspire an appreciation of the world of art to any who enroll in our classes. Our field is truly interdisciplinary and we celebrate the great diversity and richness of the world's art by being engaged as makers of art and historical scholarship.
