Students not only study English but also other subjects including sociology, politics, economics, sports science, environmental studies, history, and many more. Nearly 3,000 TIU students have participated in this program and it has had a great impact on their lives. Many are working today in professions that may not have been open to them without this intensive intercultural experience. Besides living on campus, students can also get involved in the Salem community through our Tomodachi (Friendship) Program and through many cultural and service learning activities.
During vacation periods, students travel widely throughout the United States. With its location in Salem, Oregon, students often participate in outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. The athletic facilities at Willamette University include several gymnasiums, tennis courts, swimming pools, and several sports fields. So, as you can see, there is a lot to see and do during both the school year and vacation periods.
