Professional Interests: Dr. Holman and her student collaborators are investigating fundamental chemistry related to the mechanisms of action of ruthenium anti-cancer drugs. The primary techniques employed are infrared spectroelectochemistry and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The XAS studies are carried out on beamline 9.3.1 at the Advanced Light Source, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Holman currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) Users’ Organization, and she is planning to expand her experiments onto beamlines 6-2 and 9-3 at SSRL in 2007-08.

Other research projects carried out by students in Dr. Holman’s laboratory relate to bonding and ligand exchange mechanisms in bioinorganic systems (in collaboration with Dr. Kirk), photochemistry of inorganic complexes (in collaboration with Dr. Williamson), and phytoremediation of metals (in collaboration with Dr. Goodney).

Personal Interests: Playing guitar (punk/rock & roll), community radio, hiking, yoga, travel, and family.
