Research and Teaching

A member of the Willamette faculty since 1988, Professor McCreery is an internationally renowned Near Eastern archaeologist and paleobotanist. Currently, he serves as Co-Director of the Tell Nimrin Excavation in Jordan. The founding President of the Salem Society of the Archaeological Institute of America and a former Director of the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) in Amman (1981-88), he has participated in numerous excavations, most notably at Bâb edh-Dhrâ` and Numeira (Jordan).

Professor McCreery maintains an archaeological lab on campus where he works with his students on recent finds. His interests in Classical Studies include Syro-Palestinian archaeology, Old Testament history and Hebrew.
