  1. Attend the information session on Wednesday, February 15, 2024, 7-8pm, in Collins 205.
  2. Meet with one or more of the participating faculty members and discuss possible research topics of mutual interest. If you are interested in pursuing participation in SCRP the faculty member will assign you a problem or topic to research.
  3. Prepare a one- to two-page, double-spaced statement in Word explaining why you want to be part of the program, and what your qualifications are (e.g., relevant course work, previous research experience, and computer skills). You will copy this text directly into the Google Form application.
  4. Download an unofficial copy of your transcript through SAGE and save it as a PDF file. Use the following format for naming the file: "Lastname_Firstname S24-Transcript". Example: Smith_Jane S24-Transcript.pdf
  5. Identify a faculty member willing to serve as a reference for you. The faculty member should be able to address your abilities in the laboratory and the classroom, and your enthusiasm for scientific inquiry. The faculty member does not need to write a letter, but should be available to speak on your behalf with your potential faculty collaborator.
  6. Complete the additional application assignment as designed by your potential faculty collaborator. Links to these assignments are found on the SCRP 2024 Projects Page. Save your assignment in PDF format. Name your file using the format: "Lastname_Firstname S24-SCRP-FacultyLastName". Example: Smith_Jane S24-SCRP-Craig.pdf
  7. Complete the on-line SCRP application. 

Application Deadline

The application deadline is Sunday, March 10th, 2024. Awardees will be notified about two weeks after the submission deadline.

2024 SCRP Schedule

  • An orientation session for successful applicants with the SCRP Co-Directors will take place in late April or early May.
  • SCRP participants will also coordinate with their faculty collaborators before the end of the academic year.
  • Experimental work will take place (for most groups) from Monday, June 3rd through August 2nd, 2024.
  • All students and faculty attend the weekly SCRP picnics, each picnic organized by a different research team each Friday for the duration of the SCRP activities.
  • Students will present their results during the in-house research conference on Friday, September 13, 2024.
  • Some students will travel to the Murdock Regional Science Conference held November 8-9 in Vancouver, Washington.
  • There may be additional student obligations depending on the source of funding.
