Biography

Jacqueline McCormick, a native of England, moved to the United States in 1982, and has been teaching, performing and making dances for over twenty years. Her work has been greatly influenced by her research into Contact Improvisation. She began her Contact Improvisation studies in 1985 with Karen Nelson and Alito Alessi. Jacqueline McCormick was an Associate Professor in Dance at Western Oregon University (1985-1996) and Connecticut College, USA (2000-2004). She directs and performs in her company DanceAbout, works that take a dancing journey through the outback of the self. Along with Contact Improvisation her curiosities lie in teaching Authentic Movement and Ensemble Improvisation. All of her work is informed by her extensive knowledge of the kinesiology of the body. Jacqueline McCormick returned to her native England in 2004 and is currently Dance Director for Cheshire Dance, in Cheshire, England/

In 2009 Jacqueline McCormick teamed up with Chester based artist, Ruth Spencer, to choreograph a piece to celebrate the city of Chester.

Jacqueline McCormick has taught Contact Improvisation at numerous Contact Festivals and workshops throughout the USA and Europe, and from 1997-2003 she co-led the CI Teachers Lab in San Francisco, California.

In 2010 Jacqueline McCormick created a film Settle (A Cheshire Dance Film Project, supported by ACE and Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils)

Jacqueline McCormick has a Bachelor of Education in Human Movement Studies from Bedford College of Higher Education in England and a Master of Arts degree in Dance from Mills College in Oakland, California.
