Willamette is at a critical crossroads regarding the way the university manages its information and workflow around human resources and payroll processes. Over the past few years, a series of errors has resulted in incorrect payroll for Willamette employees at a level beyond the acceptable norm. In addition, needed upgrades to the Colleague system that supports these processes require the replacement of major portions of the existing system due to obsolete customizations.
Willamette’s current Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is outdated and, in many cases, obsolete. The system does not provide the functionality to comply with changing laws and regulations, support the complexity of business processes required of an institution the size of Willamette, and, most significantly, ensure the accuracy of data and information to support the work of staff, faculty and students.
A team including representatives from human resources, accounting, financial operations and WITS to review our current processes and recommend a path forward. After careful review of alternatives, the group recommended the Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) solution. Workday HCM offers Willamette a number of important benefits, including higher data security, flexible software to respond to changes in laws and regulations, information saved in “the cloud” that doesn’t rely on physical servers, and a proven track record of success at other higher education institutions the size of Willamette.
