Peace Corps
The Peace Corps is a federally funded program that sends American volunteers around the globe to participate in various projects to work with a diversity of governments, schools, and non-profit organizations in the areas of education, business, agriculture and the environment. The program goals are "to promote world peace and friendship through a Peace Corps, which shall make available to interested countries and areas men and women of the United States qualified for service abroad and willing to serve, under conditions of hardship if necessary, to help the peoples of such countries and areas in meeting their needs for trained manpower."
Peace Corps is a 2 year and 3 month commitment in an abroad location. A living stipend is provided throughout the term of service, as well as the option for loan deferment and partial student loan payment. Participants receive $6,000 at the completion of service.
