Job Search

Job search sites provide users with a job search function, compiling a list of job postings that meet each user's search criteria. Many of the sites have the option of creating a personal user profile where searches can be recorded and personal documents, such as a resume, can be saved for easy online job application. Some sites also allow employers to search for and view job-seeker profiles.

CampusPoint.com

"The largest private recruiter of college students and recent graduates in Washington and Oregon"

CampusPoint.com allows students to select specific career preferences and create an electronic resume that can be used to search and apply for local jobs. The status of job applications can be monitored CampusPoint's AppTracker feature. Users can elect to receive an email bulletin with recently added job postings that match their preferences. Users looking for immediate temporary job openings can join CampusPoint's HotList, which alerts HotList members about temporary jobs before they are even posted. CampusPoint also features information on private health insurance options. Students can also browse and search the site's Local Employer Directory.

Requirements:

  • According to CampusPoint.com, "...In order to utilize CampusPoint, you must either be:  
    • An actively enrolled student at a regionally accredited college or university, currently pursuing an associates, technical, or bachelors degree (a for-credit program). Graduate students actively pursuing a business, engineering, or liberal arts related graduate degree are also welcome.
    • A college graduate that has earned an associates, technical, or bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university within the past SIX YEARS, or a graduate degree within the past ONE YEAR."
  • For full access to all of CampusPoint's resources, users may be required to participate in a FirstStep interview at one of the CampusPoint offices, which are located in Portland and Seattle.

CareerBuilder.com

CareerBuilder.com provides users with job search management tools, resume posting tools, job alerts and additional career advice and resource articles. With the creation of a personal profile the job search function allows for advanced job searches by location, company, industry and salary range. Users can elect to receive custom job alerts for new positions, accessible through email or text message. The job recommendation engine remembers your job searches, scans your resume and compiles details from the jobs you've applied for previously to generate custom job recommendations that match your specific interest and qualifications. Along with posting your resume(s) for employers, CareerBuilder.com provides resources for resume writing and editing. Additional career advice and resources include a salary calculator, career fair information, assessments, and links to other helpful sites.

CareerCenterJobs.org

CareerCenterJobs.org was created as a cooperative effort among Willamette University and other select Oregon liberal arts colleges and universities interested in working together with employers to facilitate matching of liberal arts students and graduates with employment opportunities. Many of the jobs postings are for positions in Oregon or the greater Northwest. Jobs searches can be specified by job type, industry, location and occupation. Job listings include full-time, part-time, temporary, summer, internships, and volunteer positions. Jobs and internships are approved on the basis of their suitability for students and graduates of liberal arts colleges, so positions are appropriate for Willamette students. Related links connect job seekers with additional contacts and career resources in the Pacific Northwest.

Craigslist

Craigslist is an online classified ads website that is city-specific and open to the public. Employment opportunities are categorized as ‘jobs' or ‘gigs' depending on the position. Jobseekers can filter through postings by either selecting a category of interest or they can view all jobs and narrow results through a keyword search function. Anyone can post on Craigslist so be cautious of scams and don't exchange personal information until you are sure it is a legitimate posting.

HonoRollOnline.com

Honorrollonline.com has chosen Willamette University to be among 100 schools selected for their exceptional performance in specific disciplines and their commitment to creating excellent candidates. Their goal is to connect the best companies in the world with the best candidates in the country. To access this information students should logon to the website using their Willamette-issued email address and school code 1545. An email will be sent to you immediately with an activation code, link and instructions.

Here students can create a candidate profile that can be viewed by corporate employers. A student's personal information is not available to employers. Instead, employers may request an interview or other information via the website's message center. On their candidate profile students can list their objective, key subjects, areas of interest, recognitions, affiliations, works published, and their resume and references. The profile also includes the student's degree, major and GPA. In addition, students can search jobs and internships offered by corporate employers.

Indeed.com

This site is a simple and straightforward job search engine. Set up much like Google, the search engine allows you to enter a job title, keyword company and location. Search results are displayed in an easy-to-read format that presents the position title, a clip of the description, and the source of the posting. The link takes the user to the original job posting webpage, whether it is at another job posting website or the organization itself.  Users can refine and sort search results by estimated salary, title, company, location, job type, or employer/recruiter. Searches can be saved as an email job alert, alerting the user of new positions that fulfill the search criteria. Indeed.com also offers a section describing trends related to the job, as well as forums on each job.

JobTarzan.com

A simple job search engine, similar to Google, allows the jobseeker to specify location and occupation in initial search. Positions are sourced from numerous online job boards, newspapers, classified ads and company websites. Jobs by Indeed.

NACElink

The NACElink Network connects students and alumni with job postings and employer accounts from one of the largest recruiting networks for colleges and employers. After creating a user profile students can store resumes, cover letters, and writing samples; create search agents to save job postings and mark preferred jobs as favorites. Job postings are updated daily, often with the option of applying online with the ability to monitor application status.   • JobWeb offers career and job-search advice, and is the online complement to the Job Choices job-search publications. Access to the Job Search Engine is granted via NACElink (National Association of Colleges & Employers). Resources are available to students, parents, employers and colleges featuring articles, videos, blogs and testimonials on career and job search information. JobWeb features articles on current job outlook, salary, international job search, and more.

State of Oregon

To view Oregon job listings, select "Job Seekers" from the left-hand menu and then "Browse Oregon job listings." Users can search jobs by occupational field, location, or job listing number. Users may also choose to view only part-time or full-time listings by using the "Advanced" search. The State of Oregon now offers the program iMatchSkills in which Oregon job-seekers can create a profile and be matched with employers.
