Athens, Greece

Overview

Sometimes known as the "birthplace of democracy" Athens is an ideal place for many liberal arts students to study abroad. Many courses will involve multiple day-trips around the city and country discovering the rich history, culture and language of Greece. Student study at American Heritage Association's (AHA) Greece Center.

Academics

History, Politics and Classical Studies majors will find a wide variety of courses to enrich their degrees. Other humanities majors should also investigate Athens. More course information. All students are required to take both Modern Greek Languages and Cross Cultural Communications and Perspectives.

Housing

Students will live in shared apartments in the fall semester and in a residential hostel during the spring.

Dates

The Athens program is available in the spring and fall semesters. The fall semester starts at the beginning of September and ends at the beginning of December. The spring semester starts mid-March and ends mid-June. The Athens program is on a trimester system, therefore Willamette students will need to take more course than the other students in the program to complete the equivalent of 4.0 WU credits while in Athens.

Cost

Willamette tuition and a program fee equivalent to WU's room cost only, not including board. The program fee includes housing, medical insurance, excursions, on-site support, and an International Student Identity Card. Food is not included in the price payed to WU, students will purchase and prepare food on their own.
