When notified of a potential threat, all officers and backup officers respond; other agencies are contacted immediately as required. Residential and academic buildings can be locked down by computer; students and staff are still able to card into locked buildings for protection.
Students and staff are encouraged to sign up for FlashNews, a free email or cell phone emergency notification program, which also includes weather closure information. A message will be sent anytime Willamette University adds a notification to FlashNews; you may choose to receive messages from other local emergency service agencies. Go to FlashAlert to enroll.
Additional plans in process:
A siren, audible across the entire campus, will broadcast specific instructions on where to go or stay for protection in case of a campus emergency.
A computer program capable of locking a group of buildings in about 10 seconds.
